Severance Agreements
Sometimes an executive or employee is asked to sign a severance agreement as a part of his or her separation from the company. These agreements are often one-sided, and ask for the complete waiver of all claims (though the employee may not known what claims exist).
Sometimes the severance agreement is straightforward. Sometimes it is not. More often than not, the agreement advises the employee to consult with independent counsel concerning the content of the agreement.
